Barbara Pivnicka is President and Chief Executive Officer of the San Francisco Global Trade Council, an organization founded in 1992 by Harry Orbelian. The Council is widely recognized for its trade missions, including missions to Cuba, Russia and China, as well as its programs focusing specifically on international trade and commerce issues.

Ms. Pivnicka served as Chief Executive Officer of the International Diplomacy Council, the San Francisco-based organization that developed programs in conjunction with the US State Department for over 1000 international professionals a year. The Council was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001, and was recently acquired by the Institute of International Education, the organization that manages the Fulbright Scholars Program.

Ms. Pivnicka served as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Global, for Tier Technologies, (TIER: Nasdaq), overseeing international corporate communications and global branding, and investor relations. Tier is a systems integrator with several proprietary technology products, and operations in the US, UK and Australia.

Prior to joining Tier in 2000, Ms. Pivnicka was Director of Marketing for Deloitte and Touche LLP, responsible for the marketing, business development, public relations and corporate communications strategies and programs for the Western regional practice of the professional services firm. She directed a team of 19 marketing managers, creative services personnel and research analysts. She joined Deloitte in 1986, and served on the Management Committee as well as on the Partner’s Council.

In 2001, Ms. Pivnicka was appointed Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic by the Foreign Minister of the Slovak Republic. She is the first woman in the US to hold the post. She was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the San Francisco Consular Corps, the third-largest consular community in the US, whose members represent 78 countries.

She holds a BA with Honors in English and Art History from the University of San Francisco, and was chosen as a scholar in the prestigious Honors Humanities Program. She holds Certification from the National Investor Relations Institute.

Ms. Pivnicka is a frequent lecturer on marketing and branding issues for organizations and institutions. She has addressed San Francisco Women in Finance, the Legal Marketing Association, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Women’s Forum, and was the keynote speaker for the Association of Accounting Marketing. She has served as Lecturer at the University of San Francisco’s Graduate School of Business and at Golden Gate University. She was a speaker at the Prague Society for International Cooperation’s Global Symposium, held in the Prague Senate. Her remarks, which concerned the importance and viability of distance learning for global corporations, will be published this year.

She is the recipient of several prestigious awards and certificates, including the coveted “Bronze Eagle,” awarded for implementing the first fully interactive teleconference staged by private industry, and a Certificate of Honor from Leadership San Francisco. In 1997, she was named San Francisco’s “Volunteer of the Year” by the Bay Area Management Center.

Ms. Pivnicka is involved in numerous community and civic organizations. She is a Governor of the Commonwealth Club, the nation’s oldest and largest public speech forum, and has been a member of its Executive Committee. She is an Advisory Board member of University of San Francisco’s Center for the Study of the Pacific Rim. A graduate of Leadership San Francisco, she served on the Advisory Council of the Commission on the Status of Women and as a Director of Girl Scouts, Northern California Chapter.
